Jason Lee Golliher Memorial Scholarship
Jason graduated from Roane County High School in Kingston, TN in 1994. At RCHS, he won the art award his senior year. He received a scholarship to RSCC. He also worked on the Roane State Newsletter. After 2 years at Roane State, he had made plans to study at The Art Institute of Boston in Boston, MA. Since he needed a few more important credits in order to get into AIB, Jason stayed one more year at Roane State and was awarded a scholarship to attend AIB.
Jason graduated from AIB in 2000 and moved to North Carolina where he worked as the lead graphic artist for a famous equine magazine. He later went to work for a law office that focused on city planning.
In 2015 Jason decided to move closer to home due to health issues and returned to Kingston to be closer to family. In February 2016, Jason passed away from a massive heart attack.
Impact
Jason’s work is amazing and he will always be remembered for giving his art away. It is only fitting that his family wished to establish a scholarship for Roane State students, where Jason’s love of art was nurtured and broadened. The Roane State Foundation is honored to award this scholarship in Jason’s memory to help other talented art students achieve their dreams.
The sketch featured in this profile is one of Jason’s self-portraits. His mother has fond memories of Jason always sitting around drawing.
