Eugene John and Doris Pheifer Barber Scholarship Endowment

The purpose of the Fund is to provide scholarships to Roane State Community College students in accordance with the following criteria:

a) Recipient(s) must meet the Foundation’s scholarship eligibility criteria requirements indicated below:
i) Enroll full-time (at least 12.0 credit hours) in a degree or certificate program at Roane State Community College.
ii) Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (F AFSA), TN Promise/fN Reconnect/fN Dual Enrollment or Middle College Scholarship applications, as applicable.
iii) Complete any Roane State Community College requirements related to scholarships or other financial aid (i.e. Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) release form);
iv) Submit written essay responses through the online scholarship application process.
v) Recipient(s) must be in good standing with the college.
vi) Maintain a minimum of 2.5 GPA for scholarship renewal while a student at RSCC, unless otherwise indicated in the below criteria.
vii) Students must reapply each year for this consideration.
viii) Submit a thank-you letter and photograph of yourself for Foundation donor(s) which can be used in College or Foundation social media, website, events or other marketing/promotional efforts and materials.
ix) These items should be submitted via the Foundation Office as directed in Scholarship guidelines within 10 days of Foundation’s electronic award notification and your acceptance of an award:

Recipient(s) must meet the additional eligibility criteria requirements indicated below:

  • Recipient must be enrolled full time at Roane State Community College.
  • Recipient must be majoring in the fields of The Sciences, Education or The Arts. This award will rotate between majors each year beginning with a Chemistry major.
  • * Recipient will receive a copy of “The Oath” Dr. Barber took at his graduation from the University of Nevada, when he was awarded his undergraduate degree, since his philosophy toward life reflected the ideas therein.
  • Recipient must demonstrate future usefulness to society, leadership, community and school involvement, and academic achievement.
  • Recipient must provide the Scholarship Selection Committee a written recommendation for the scholarship from a college faculty advisor, instructor or a recognized professional person such as his/her employer.
  • All things being equal in selection criteria, the student demonstrating the greatest financial need will receive the award.
  • If the recipient fails to register, withdraws from the college, or does not maintain eligibility requirements, the Scholarship Selection Committee will select another student if time permits; otherwise, funds will be held in the donor’s account to be carried over to the next semester.
    b) Submit a thank-you letter and photograph for Foundation donor(s) which can be used in College or Foundation social media, website, events or other marketing/promotional efforts and materials within IO days of Foundation’s electronic award notification and acceptance of an award, addressing the letter of appreciation to:
